Wildlife this month - June

fox.jpgEach year we see foxes and this spring we have seen a young vixen regularly.  She prefers to hunt in the touring field and along the fence line at the top of the park and is living either in the woods at Llancynfelin Common or on Cors fochno.

The Countryside Coucil for Wales (CCW) is responsible for the management of Borth Bog and histroically has encouraged an annual fox hunt.

This could have been a dilemma beacuse CCW is primarily a conservation body but, it was felt that controlling predators would increase the chances of birds such as Lapwings and salt marsh species, to breed and raise chicks successfully.

It is interesting that since the ban on hunting was put into place we have not seen any explosion of the fox population here.  It may be that farmers are executing their own controls or that nature is managing things logically.
